Before the article goes into a great detail about Swat ancient trees it is also best to prove it from historical point of view. Until as late as 1960s Swat was still a much wooded place. Also its population was very small. It was so wooded that almost all mountains were covered with cedar. In this recent period local tells of a Swat that would be very hard to imagine now. There used to be wild pigs in people fields and mountain sheep filled almost all mountains. Yet it was only a few decay ago. Along the river Swat there were all kinds of tree until 1960s. Swat still remains an outstanding beautiful place but compare to what it was even a few decay the modern day Swat beauty is nothing.

Going back to the time of between 400 AD to 700 AD during which Swat was almost left empty (see swat history). In the 700 AD Buddhism sprang up once again but the population remained too small until 1000 AD. It was a complete one piece of big dense Jungle. The only visible place was the river of Swat. The river of Swat was also surrounded by millions of trees on each side. Thus the river of Swat itself was extremely small in width. Also cold weather was very extreme in Swat at that time. Summer would have been very light and had little effect on the frozen snow to melt. It helped kept the river of Swat just a small river not like as it is now. People could have even crossed it by simply building small bridges in all areas not just upper swat only but almost all areas. The wooded dense Jungles of Swat from the air would have been the same as that of Amazon dense Jungle with only the small river visible from the air. It remained that way for many centuries. A world we can now only create in computer games from the landscape we know. The species of Animals and trees would have been millions of all unknown kinds were still blooming in the open for centuries. That Swat is now only a dream in the past! Is there any doubt that we human beings are the most dangerous specie on earth?

From 700 AD most people who begun to resettle in Swat (see swat history) started building houses near the river Swat. Almost All the houses would have been made of woods; in the area that is today covered by the river itself. Some of the most ancient trees who were still standing near the river saw the ax falling and the voice of that cruel ax was the sound of a new beginning. When man is around all the animal knows the end is not too far. Man had once again sounded his echo of death in this jewel dense hidden valley. When the cruel ax fell for the first time it has never stopped until now.
